A Brief about the Society
The Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society was established by virtue of Royal Decree No. (2/93), issued on January 12, 1993. It is the official body concerned with regulating and developing the amateur radio hobby in the Sultanate of Oman, and representing Omani amateurs locally and internationally.
The Basic Law (Statute) of the Society was updated by Royal Decree No. (21/2019), which amended some provisions of the establishing decree, to enhance its governance and expand its mandates in line with modern technical developments.
The Society operates under the administrative supervision of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Its goals include promoting the wireless communications hobby, qualifying national cadres in the fields of communication and technology, and enhancing the role of amateurs in emergency services and humanitarian communication.
Connecting Oman to the World
The Society represents the Sultanate of Oman in the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), and contributes to highlighting the Omani presence in regional and global forums. It also works to enable youth to acquire wireless communication skills, thereby supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in building an advanced digital and knowledge-based society.

The Regulating Legal Framework
The Society bases the organization of its work and powers on:
- Royal Decree No. (2/93) establishing the Society.
- Royal Decree No. (21/2019) amending some provisions of the establishing decree.
- The Society's Basic Law (Statute) issued by Ministerial Decision 111/2019.
- The regulatory bylaws issued by the Board of Directors.
- Other legislation governing the hobby and related activities in force in the Sultanate of Oman.
- Relevant regulations issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) or the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU).

Board Governance
The Society's Basic Law defined the Board's duties and mandates, and the mechanism for appointment or elections with transparency and fairness, allowing opportunity for everyone.
The Statute also clarified the mechanism for Board of Directors meetings and the methodology for adopting decisions issued by the Board, making the Minister the reference authority for approving decisions.
Furthermore, the Statute clarified the powers granted to the Chairman or his Deputy. The Basic Law also governed the relationship between the Board and the Society's members and the manner of exchanging views and proposals in a way that serves and achieves the Society's goals.
